The Złote Tarasy shopping complex stands at 59 Złota Street, next to the Central Station and the Palace of Culture, in the Żelazna Brama area. Construction began in October 2002, and the shopping centre opened on 7 February 2007. The investor was ING Real Estate and the general contractor was Skanska.
The city handed the plot for the complex to the investor in exchange for a stake in the company created for the project. The city sold its shares in two stages: in 2002, 23.15% for 66.2 million zloty, and in 2013 the remaining 23.15% for 217.6 million zloty.
The architect was the Californian company The Jerde Partnership; part of the project was developed by the Polish studio Hrynkiewicz i Synowie. The total area of the complex is about 205,000 square metres, of which the retail part is 65,000. Two office buildings, Lumen and Skylight, together occupy about 68,500 square metres.
