Warsaw mayor Rafał Trzaskowski published a video of a test ride on the new route from Bitwy Warszawskiej 1920 Street to Warszawa Zachodnia station. He said the section covered is over 1.5 km, 500 metres of it in the tunnel. In the tunnel the tram runs without overhead wires, on a supercapacitor; if it fails, the car can be pulled out by a Unimog tractor.
The 1.6 km route will link Grójecka Street with the West Station, where the capital's first underground tram stop is being built. Its exit is connected by a mezzanine to the platforms of Warszawa Zachodnia.
Work began in June 2024 and is in its final phase. Acceptance procedures will follow the tests. In September Tramwaje Warszawskie vice-president Konrad Niklewicz said he could not give a date for passenger service: the turn of the year had been mentioned, but a few more weeks may be needed.
