The Sinfonia Varsovia orchestra has signed a contract with WARBUD for the second stage of construction of its new headquarters on Grochowska Street, RMF24 reports. Work will begin this year, with completion planned for 2030.
The main hall will seat 1,877 people, and a 400-seat chamber hall will be built next to it. Two outbuildings will be renovated and connected to the main building. The complex will house dressing rooms, rehearsal rooms, a music library and recording studios for live concert broadcasts, as well as a garden open to everyone and connected to the neighbouring park.
The design was prepared by Atelier Thomas Pucher together with acousticians. The hall combines features of the classic shoe box form and the modern vineyard form, where the audience surrounds the stage; its volume will exceed 21,000 cubic metres, with a reverberation time of 2.0 to 2.3 seconds. The building will be open to visitors outside concerts: people will be able to climb to the very top and step onto a 400-metre promenade around the grounds.
The investment is funded by the City of Warsaw and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski called the project important for the right-bank capital; orchestra director Janusz Marynowski noted that Sinfonia Varsovia will no longer be an orchestra without a home of its own.
