Scammers are again sending SMS messages about supposedly unpaid traffic fines, using the name mObywatel. The warning was published on 8 October. The messages come from ordinary phone numbers, and the link leads to a fake page. In the case described, the domain was registered on the same day the warning appeared.

First the link leads to a form with the vehicle registration number, then it asks for card details and a confirmation code. The code may confirm a different transaction, so, as CERT Polska advises, read the full text of the bank notification, especially the amount and the recipient.

If in doubt, open the mObywatel app yourself and check fines in the “Mandaty” service. Do not reply to the SMS and do not call the number in the text. Simply following the link does not mean losing money: the risk arises when you enter data and confirm transactions.
