President Karol Nawrocki warned in an address of a crisis in public finances. According to him, the deficit after August has exceeded PLN 150 billion, and tax revenue is below what was planned.
Nawrocki said the state already lacks money to support hospitals and to intervene on the fuel market, while defence and pensions are at risk. At the same time he signed a law affecting the largest players in the fuel market.
Finance and Economy Minister Andrzej Domański replied that the president contradicts himself: one cannot worry about a growing deficit and at the same time demand low taxes alongside high spending. “If we want a country with high spending and low taxes, the deficit will also be high,” he said. He said the health budget in 2027 will be about 50% higher than in 2023, and security spending has risen from about PLN 110 billion to nearly PLN 200 billion.
