The building belongs to a housing association that decided to renovate the façade. On 12 September, an employee of the Archive of Modern Records found a Polska Walcząca sign under the old plaster at the entrance to the stairwell. Two days later an unknown person defaced it with black paint.
A representative of the Warsaw monument conservator has already visited the site and drawn up an inspection report. Removing the paint and protecting the sign will have to be done professionally; the association will bear the costs and may ask the conservator for reimbursement. District councillor Radosław Sosnowski (PiS) filed an interpellation asking for help in preserving the sign. District head Tomasz Keller said that if the sign is confirmed as authentic and dating from the Second World War, the district will consider a request for funding its protection within its means.
The association's board and the building manager said they are fully ready to preserve the sign.
