Poland is the largest exporter from the European Union to the Ukrainian market. According to the “Ukrainian Affairs Monitor” of Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego (BGK), the positive balance in trade in goods between Poland and Ukraine has reached 9.7 billion euros; at the end of 2020 it stood at around 2.7 billion euros.
The value of goods sent from Poland to Ukraine rose from roughly 5.2 billion euros in December 2020 to 14.1 billion euros in May 2026 — by almost 169%. Imports from Ukraine over the same period increased from 2.5 to 4.4 billion euros, by almost 72%. Ukraine's share of Polish exports grew from 2.2% to 3.8%. The calculations are based on Eurostat data using rolling twelve-month totals.
Poland's share of EU exports to Ukraine rose from 22.7% to 29.5%; Germany is second with 18.5%, followed by Hungary, the Czech Republic and Italy. More than half of the growth in Polish exports since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion came from fuels and energy, weapons and ammunition, and aircraft: sales of fuels rose from roughly 100 million euros to 2.7 billion euros. Civilian industrial goods still make up the bulk of exports — their deliveries grew from 4.3 billion euros to 8 billion euros.
