On Tuesday the Sejm rejected a PiS motion of no confidence in finance and economy minister Andrzej Domański. 234 deputies voted against the dismissal, 204 in favour, with no abstentions. 231 votes were needed to dismiss him.
During the debate Prime Minister Donald Tusk said he would ask President Karol Nawrocki to appoint Domański deputy prime minister. According to Tusk, public finances remain under control, although government policy involves a high deficit and growing debt.
The prime minister named spending on security and army modernisation as one of the main causes of the deficit: direct defence spending is close to 5% of GDP, and with other security costs about 7% of GDP, which he said equals the size of the deficit.
Speaking for PiS, Przemysław Czarnek said Tusk should have dismissed Domański long ago and accused the minister of errors in budget estimates of 120 billion zloty over three years.
