Warsaw does not recommend cancelling lessons on Friday: only pupils and staff will be let into schools

After the attacks at schools in the Masovian Voivodeship, Warsaw City Hall published an urgent notice for parents, pupils and school staff. Heads were obliged to step up control: only pupils and employees will be let into the buildings, with more careful checks at the entrance.

Police and municipal guard patrols will appear at schools. City Hall stresses that the measures are preventive, asks people to stay calm and to use only verified sources. The city is in contact with the police, the municipal guard and the heads of schools and kindergartens.

Unlike some neighbouring local governments, Warsaw does not recommend cancelling classes. Heads pass details to parents through electronic registers.

The decision has caused debate: under City Hall's post many ask why lessons should not be cancelled for one day, whether there are enough patrols for all schools, and how restricting entry will protect against a threat from pupils themselves.
