Five days off in a row at the end of December: 28 December is a day off for civil servants

Prime Minister Donald Tusk signed ordinance No. 2 of 5 January 2026: Monday 28 December is declared a day off for members of the civil service corps. It compensates for the second day of Christmas, which falls on a Saturday this year.

Together with the holidays and weekends this gives five days in a row: 24 to 28 December. No leave days need to be used. The ordinance is published in the Monitor Polski, item 36.

However, the decision does not cover everyone. It applies to staff of certain government administration bodies, for example ministries and voivodeship offices. Rules may differ in schools, local governments and other institutions. In private companies the situation is different, so before planning a trip it is worth checking the schedule at your own workplace.
