Gawkowski: the state is ready to shut down X and Meta over illegal content

Deputy Prime Minister and Digital Affairs Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski said at the Cyber24 Days conference in Warsaw that financial fines are too weak a measure for platforms. If people's rights are systematically violated on them, including by publishing nude images of children, the state is ready to shut them down.

According to the minister, he was close to such a decision last year, when X was flooded with nude images created by the built-in AI assistant Grok. The organisation WeProtect reports a rise in child sexual abuse material online of up to 1300% over a year, including material created with the help of AI.
