Head of the President's Chancellery Paweł Szefernaker called the situation at the National Bank of Poland unprecedented. The NBP board now has six members, the legal minimum. The term of Vice-President Adam Lipiński expires on 4 November; from 5 November the board will have five members if it is not supplemented.
President Karol Nawrocki sent the prime minister proposals in February to appoint four board members and asked Donald Tusk for countersignature. In May the prime minister returned the proposals without countersignature. Now the president will resubmit them. The list includes Przemysław Litwiniuk, Ludwik Kotecki, Marcin Zarzecki and Marta Kightley.
According to Szefernaker, if the proposal is rejected again, this will prove 'political revenge and a desire to take control of the NBP'. The law requires the prime minister's countersignature for appointing board members of the central bank.
