The Warsaw capital region has the best labour market in Europe, according to new Eurostat analysis reported by “Rzeczpospolita”. It has the highest employment rate for people aged 20–64: 86.9%. Next come Prague (86%), the Finnish Åland Islands (85.5%) and the Dutch Utrecht (85.4%).

Warsaw also has one of the highest employment rates in the EU for people aged 20–64 with higher education, 93.5%, and one of the lowest unemployment rates among 15–29-year-olds, 7.5%.

Grant Thornton chief economist Marcin Mrowiec links this to demographics: Poland is the fastest-ageing society in Europe, and more people are retiring than young people are coming in. According to the newspaper's assessment, because of the shortage of young candidates, employers are more cautious about decisions on redundancies.
