The National Bank of Poland has again asked the president to appoint members of its management board. The bank said it had taken all possible steps within the law. Asked by the PAP news agency which people the renewed request covers and when it was filed, the bank replied that its statement exhausts the information.
At the end of September, government spokesman Adam Szłapka said no request had reached the Chancellery of the Prime Minister that the prime minister could countersign. Without the prime minister's countersignature a request is invalid, but it must reach the Chancellery for a decision to be taken. In May the NBP said Prime Minister Donald Tusk had returned, without countersignature, the president's decisions appointing four board members.
The board, together with NBP President Adam Glapiński, currently has seven people. By law it includes the president of the bank and six to eight members, including two deputy governors. The first term of Deputy Governor Adam Lipiński ends in November: if it is not extended and no new member is chosen, the board could have fewer members than the law requires.
