New fire safety rules (Ministry of the Interior regulation of 21 November 2024, Dz.U. item 1716) are being introduced in stages. From 30 June 2026, the obligation applies to existing premises where hotel services are provided, including flats and rooms for short-term rental, if the activity falls under this definition. Where solid, liquid or gaseous fuel is burned, a carbon monoxide detector may be required.

From 1 January 2030, existing residential premises must have at least one stand-alone smoke detector. There are exceptions for such premises, for example for some appliances with a closed combustion chamber and premises with suitable fire protection systems. Two detectors per flat without exceptions are not required.
