Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said on X that he signed a request to put Lviv regional councillor Sviatoslav Sheremeta on the list of persons undesirable in Poland. According to the minister, Sheremeta is the author of the idea to declare 2027 the year of Roman Shukhevych, the UPA commander, and a re-enactor of the Galizien Waffen-SS division.

On Tuesday the Lviv regional council declared 2027 the year of the UPA, Shukhevych and Oleh Olzhych. Late on Tuesday evening the resolution disappeared from the council's website. Deputy Foreign Minister Marcin Bosacki told TVN24 that Poland received a promise from President Zelensky's closest associates that the decision will not take effect. Warsaw is waiting for Ukraine's official reaction.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk, before flying to India and Vietnam, called the decision unwise and harmful above all to Ukraine itself, RMF FM reports. He said he had earlier warned Zelensky that such gestures make the work of Ukraine's friends harder, and called such decisions a suicidal tactic: opponents of Ukraine joining the EU got a pretext.

Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz called the decision unacceptable and said Poland is talking to the Ukrainian side and awaiting an adequate reaction.
