President Karol Nawrocki, in an interview with Polsat News and Interia, called 'a true circus' the circumstances in which Maciej Berek took the oath as a judge of the Constitutional Tribunal before the Sejm marshal Wlodzimierz Czarzasty. Nawrocki criticised the actions of Czarzasty and of Berek.
The president did not accept the oath from Berek, citing formal and strategic doubts, of which, he said, the formal ones are the main concern. The decision on Berek is awaited by the Tribunal's chair Bogdan Swieczkowski; formally it must be taken by Monday. The Chancellery is still waiting for documents confirming Berek's 10 years of work as a legal adviser.
The president holds that all judges should take the oath before the head of state and that experience must be proven. He said Berek is not required to do what ordinary job applicants must, because, as the president put it, he is 'from Prime Minister Donald Tusk'. Berek himself said on the 'Graffiti' programme that no one from the Chancellery had asked him for documents on his experience.
