New maximum fuel prices: petrol 95 up to 6.79 zloty per litre

New maximum fuel prices apply from Tuesday: petrol 95 no more than 6.79 zloty a litre, petrol 98 7.66, diesel 7.82. On Monday the prices were 6.73, 7.59 and 7.88 zloty: the cap was raised for petrol and lowered for diesel.

This is the third issue of the government's Ceny Paliwa Niżej package. It took effect after President Karol Nawrocki signed the law on a windfall tax on fuel companies; at the same time the president referred the law to the Constitutional Tribunal.

The law allows excise and VAT on fuel to be cut temporarily. The money for this is to come from the new tax: 60% of windfall profit from fuel sales from 1 March 2026 to 31 March 2027. The package, according to government plans, runs until the end of 2026 and costs about 5 billion zloty.
