Experts warn that bread, potatoes, chocolate, olive oil and green vegetables may become noticeably more expensive this winter. According to RMF24, the causes are weather anomalies and market crises: droughts, heavy rains and rising fuel and fertiliser prices.
The potato harvest in Europe is estimated to be lower by about 3.5 million tonnes. Cocoa prices rose in 2024 and have fallen slightly now, but remain high. Producers increasingly replace expensive cocoa butter with cheaper vegetable fats.
